Imports
The following duty free allowances apply: 200 cigarettes or 250 grams of tobacco and one liter of alcohol. Jewelry, camera, personal notebook or laptop and other electronic items are unaffected.
If you carry large equipment, especially electronic or optical devices, it will be at the discretion of the customs officer to rate them either as commodities or as personal and professional belongings. Nevertheless, you can discuss this matter! Drugs, weapons, obscene pornographic literature or material cannot be brought into the country.
Exports
The export of drugs are strictly prohibited. Limited regulations apply to antiques as well as old and new Buddha statues. Permission is required to export these objects and is obtainable at the Department of Fine Art, Na Prathat Road, Bangkok, Tel. 2217811. Applications have to be made at least five days before departure.
Currency Regulations
When entering the country you can bring in any amount of Thai Baht or other currencies. However, when taking out cash or traveler's checks the allowance is the equivalent value of the amount you brought into the country.
If you want to take out a larger amount of money, you must prove that you have personally brought the money into the country. Therefore it is advisable to declare on arrival an amount of more than US$ 10,000.
You are allowed to take up to 50,000 Baht per person out of the country. And if you travel to a neighboring country such as Malaysia you can take in up to 100,000 Baht. During your departure at the airport in Bangkok you can exchange remaining cash in other currencies.
