Festivals in Khon Kaen

Dok Khun Siang Khaen Festival
At Songkhran (13th - 15th April) the Dok Khun Siang Khaen Festival takes place around Bung Khaen Nakhon Lake.
This celebration showcases colorful floral processions. Significant festival activities consist of religious ceremonies with merit-making and I-San folk music with dances and entertainment.
In the mornings food is offered to the monks and the Buddha images are sprinkled with water. Afterwards a flower procession goes through the city. There are hilarious celebrations for many days and everything is splashed with water.
Silk Festival and Friend Festival
End of November/beginning of December the Silk Festival and the Friend Festival is celebrated.
Dance presentations take place at the City Hall as well as a parade through the city on the 1st day where silk weavings are displayed.
Pook Sieo, an I-San custom promoting close friendship in between persons of comparable ages, is celebrated during this event as well.
Phrathat Kham Kaen Fair
The Phrathat Kham Kaen Fair takes place at Wat Chetiyaphum, 26 km to the northeast of Khon Kaen City.
Phrathat Kham Kaen Fair occurs on the full-moon day of the sixth lunar month. The fair is meant for the inhabitants of Khon Kaen to pay homage to the much revered Phrathat and to make merit.
Take Highway H12 (H209) towards Kalasin for 12 km and turn left after crossing the Nam Phong River, then keep straight north for another 14 kilometers.
