The center of Krabi Town can be easily explored by walking through. You will be welcomed by its friendly people and get a good chance of taking part in every day life.

I suggest you start at Wat Kaew Temple, either climb up the stairs from Maharat Road or walk up the little hill on Krabi Road. From here you have a nice view over part of the city and the river. If you take Krabi Road the Krabi town Contemporary Art Museum is on your left opposite the entrance. The museum exhibits changing artists, some of them really interesting.

Climb down the stairs and turn left on Maharat Road. Then take another left into Maharat Soi 9, at the Shell petrol station and you will see the Morning Market in front of you to your right. Vendors from all over Krabi sell their fruits, vegetables, fish and seafood, ready to eat dishes along with clothes and household ware. The market starts in the early hours of the morning and closes around mid-day.

Then walk back and cross Maharat Road at the traffic lights with the cave man. Take the next right and cross the road. You will find Cafes, guest houses and shops all along. At the junction with Sukhon Road there is a fruit and vegetable market that opens in the afternoon and stays open until late. Follow Sukhon Road for another 50 meters and turn right at Vieng Thong Hotel. Here you also find various shops and restaurants where you can enjoy local life. If you reach the junction with Isara Road head towards the water and turn right into Utarakit Road and take the next left into Chao Fah Road, just after the eagle sculpture at the Pack-Up Hostel.

Chao Fah Road has developed as the backpacker´s center in Krabi. You find one guest house and small hotel next to the other, various bars, restaurants, offering Western and Thai Cuisine. Many Travel Shops that organize tours as well as plane bus and train tickets are located here. In Chao Fah Road you can mingle with other travellers and exchange experiences.

Walk down Chao Fah Road until it ends and turn left into Khongkha Road. Khongkha Road leads you to Thara Park where you can get some refreshments from the mobile vendors and sit in the grass and relax.Then stroll back along the water up to the new Krabi Marina. Go further up until you come to the old Chao Fah Pier, the evening food market is held here.

Try some of the local food at the food market that starts around 16.00 every day.

A memorable experience is a tour through the mangroves of Krabi Town on a long tail boat!

If you pass the Old Chao Fah Pier and walk up to the police box with the eagle statue you will see some fishermen along the embankment. Ask them for a tour through the mangroves, it takes about 1 hour and is 100 baht per person, minimum 400 baht per boat. The trip takes you through the intact fragile Eco system of mangroves. The boat will also stop at some fish and crab farms on a scarcely inhabited island just opposite Bantoey Restaurant.
