Pakbara (the stress is on the last syllable), located 58 km northwest of Satun, is the starting point for the ferry crossing to the islands of Tarutao, Lipe and Bulon Lae. Although the dirty beaches are not inviting for swimming, the fantastic views, the good seafood restaurants and the few western tourists may attract some people to spend a couple of days here. A highlight for photographers are the great sand formations when the water ebbs back. It can hardly be noticed that this place also serves as a red light district for fishermen.

As it is a Muslim fishing village, you better do not even unpack your shorts and bathing suits. An office of the Tarutao National Park is situated at the busy fishing harbor.
