Sandra's 'Must Dos' in Klong Haeng,

If you just have a short time holiday here is a list of things to do that are really worth it. Having lived in Krabi for 6 years I have re-visited these sites and facilities many times.
A real 'must' is a long tail boat tour. You can either book the tickets at Wangsai Seafood in Nopparat Thara or take one of the boats moored along Ao Nang Beach. Tickets can be bought in the booths at either end of the beach road.

Choose between the 4 Island Tour or just a one island tour to either Koh Poda or Koh Kai (Chicken island).

Take off and feel the rhythm of the ocean and the spray of salt-water in your face. Lean back and enjoy the beautiful and bizarre scenery of the karst stones as the coastline  becomes  smaller and smaller.
Each of the islands is surrounded by crystal clear water and the beaches are white and sandy - what better swimming and sunbathing conditions can you ask for? Click here for further information

Another 'Must Do' on the water is to take a long tail boat through the mangrove forests in Krabi Town. The best time is in the afternoon. You can ask the boatmen at Old Chao Fa Pier in the city. They take 100 baht per hour, per person.
Once the boat leaves the pier you pass a small island inhabited by monkeys. Then the boat dives into the mangrove Eco system, and runs through a maze of  narrow canals until they exit into a wider bay. Here you can see some fish farms on the water along with the island of Koh Na, a small Muslim island only a stones throw from the mainland, inhabited by fishermen.
If you want a guided tour, I recommend that you book the tour with with Massimo, the Italian owner of La Panza Restaurant at the old pier. He guides you through the mangroves with his own long tail boat and makes it an unforgettable experience.

Krabi Mangroves - Attractions
Krabi Mangroves (Krabi Mangroves) (Krabi)

Right in the center of Krabi you can find a large intact mangrove forest and a canal system running through it.

Mangroves are a specious Eco-system at coastlines and rivers. Fish, crabs, snakes, kingfishers, otters and monkeys inhabit mangroves. They can grow up to 20 meters and with their roots they protect the coastlines from erosion.

And why not try a Thai Massage during your stay in Thailand - but be careful - they are very addictive.
Have you ever made your way through the jungle on the back of an elephant? - Make sure you do not miss it, whilst in Thailand.
Wat Tham Sua is an important temple in Krabi Province. A lot of monks and nuns live in this monastery, which is also home of monkeys and other wildlife. Part of the temple premises is forest, where you can find hundreds of huge trees more than a century old. A nice walk leads you through it.

A challenge for the fittest is to climb up 1200 steps to the summit of the hill to see the footprint of Buddha and you are rewarded with a spectacular view of Krabi and the islands of the Andaman Sea.

Wat Tham Sua (Tiger Cave) (Wat Tham Sua (Tiger Cave)) (Krabi)

Wat Tham Sua is also known as Tiger Cave. Inside the cave there are what appears to be tiger paw prints in the stone. It's situated in the middle of a lush forest with enormous and ancient trees.

The surrounding area is covered with large trees most of them hundreds of years old, particularly in the Khiriwong Valley. Mountains are on all sides and there are many smaller caves. Walk straight through and take the steps to your left, opposite the white Buddha statue. The main tourist attraction in the temple complex is the 1,272 step climb up a limestone mountain to see the footprint of the Buddha. Even if you are in good shape the heat and humidity make this a difficult hike. Once you make it to the top, you are rewarded with stunning 360 degree view of the surrounding countryside and the Andaman Sea.

Wat Tham Sua is 9 km. north of Krabi Town.

Visit the Hot Springs in Klong Thom. Many Thais believe in the healing powers of the water of this spring.

It is worth a visit - jump into the 45 degrees hot pools, relax and watch the lovely  scenery - afterwards, take a refreshing dip in the cool stream that is passing just below you.

A polite note to all female visitors, please make sure you wear a swimming suit rather than bikinis to respect local traditions.
