In and around Ao Tha Len there are many things to explore. Krabi province offers more than just a beach holiday. For those who want to spend an active vacation there are many things to do.
Long tail Boat Trips
Ask at your resort to organize a long tail boat to Koh Poda and Chicken Island (Koh Kai) or book a Four Island trip or take the boat to Koh Hong. Enjoy the crystal clear water of the Andaman Sea. Olli at The Bananas offers special trips with local fishermen to uninhabited islands.
Koh Poda has a lovely white sandy beach with crystal clear water. The waters around Koh Poda are suitable for swimming, snorkeling and sunbathing.
It is worth a day trip from the mainland. Longboats anchoring along the beach offer snacks and Thai dishes. The island is privately owned and a bungalow site belonging to Krabi Resort offers bungalows for those who want to explore the Robinson Crusoe feeling on the island.
Koh Poda is situated south of Ao Nang, 8 km offshore.
Koh Kai is an amazing natural lime stone island resembling the body of a chicken crouching in the water.
One end of the island consists of steep cliffs while the other end has beautiful beaches along a peninsula. At low tide you can walk across the sandbank to the very tiny island of Thalay Waek. The warm and clear water is ideal for swimming. There is no accommodation on the island. A little food stall and toilets are the only amenities on the island.
Koh Hong lies opposite Klong Muang. The island is uninhabited and part of the National Park.
Hong means room, and indeed, the island has a room, a spectacular lagoon - high cliffs enclosing an emerald pool, which is ideal for snorkeling. At the main beach of the island a ranger will ask you to pay 200 Baht entrance fee (children 100 Baht). If you do not want to pay this amount, ask the captain to go to one of the other 2 beaches on the outside of the island where swimming and sunbathing is free.

The Bananas Bungalows are situated right on the beach. This pristine Bungalow site is run by Olli, who takes care of all the customer's wishes. It is a place you will feel welcome from the moment you enter the gates. The bungalows are made from bamboo with private bathrooms and there is plenty of space at The Bananas to put up your hammock! The concrete Bungalows and the dormitory have hot water showers too. The Restaurant at the Bananas cooks to your individual taste with specials in the evenings. One of the most popular things to do, when in Thailand is elephant riding. You can experience unspoilt nature from 'great heights' on top of an elephant's back.
Nosey Parkers does not only offer elephant riding but a half day nature experience. Customers will be picked up at their accommodation. The tour starts with a one hour elephant ride, afterwards a guide takes you through the rainforest to a crystal clear pond where you can take a dip. An alternate tour also includes kayaking and lunch. Prices start at 800 Baht per person. Bookings via your hotel or just give them a call.

Cycling
Why not go for a bike ride. Eco Cycle offers guided bicycle tours around Krabi province. It is worth pedaling the roads and admire the karst formations.

Fishing
If you are an angler and look for either big game fishing or fresh water fishing.
Gillham's Fishing Resort, owned by world- renowned Angler Stuart Gillham and his son Sean is the place to go for anglers. The fishers will find, amongst others, big head carps, Chayo Praya Catfish and Freshwater Stingrays. At Gillham's you can fish either a full day or half the day. The angler is supplied with two fishing rods and a reasonable amount of free bait per day -no outside baits are allowed unless they are of a recognized brand name. Fishing times for day ticket anglers are 8am through to 7pm. Many of the fish have been grown on from fry at Gillham's fish farm; others have taken years of searching and collecting from all over Thailand. Pick-up service provided.

Golf
In the vicinity of Krabi and Ao Tha Len you find an 18 hole golf course, a 9 hole golf course and a driving range. The Pakasai Golf and Country Club, with its 18 holes is about 45 kilometers from Ao Tha Len. Sofitel Pokeethra Krabi Resort in Klong Muang has a well maintained 9 hole course and the driving range is about 18 kilometers from Ao Nang towards Phuket.

Pakasai Country Club is an 18 holes golf course in Nua Khlong, about 25 kms south of Krabi Town. The rates start as of 3400 Baht per person, including transfer. Swimming Pool, Clubhouse and Pro Shop are available.

The Giant Catfish Farm is definitely worth a visit. Nina, the American owner and her Thai husband have designed this beautiful park. At Nathin Spicy Garden, Peter a Dutch ex-pharmacist gives you a comprehensive walk through his garden and explains the plants. Interested in snakes? Visit King Cobra Show with daily snake and monkey shows. If you are into horse riding, you can take either lessons or just ride a horse at Krabi Nature Horse Riding.
The King Cobra Show and Snake Farm has about 30 species of tropical snakes including a King Cobra in of about 5 meters in length. The shows start daily during High Season at 9.00, 11.00, 13.00, 15.00 and 18.00, Duration approximately 1 hour, Pick-up Service.
Krabi Nature Horse Riding does not only offer rides along the beach but they also organize tours to attractions in Krabi province, such as the hot springs and Kayaking at Ao Tha Len.

The Giant Catfish Farm is outside Ao Nang on the road to Klong Muang. Giant Catfish Farm is a 7 rai nature park. The beautiful park has numerous ponds with 20 different kinds of fish, including some of the biggest catfish in South Thailand. Your walk through the park leads you over swing bridges and you can get a good overview of southern Thailand's flowers and plants. There are also turtles. crocodiles, scorpions and local insects on display.After the walk through the park you can take a dip in one of the Jacuzzi shaped pools. Entry Fee 50 baht for adults and 30 baht for children, including fish food.
A relatively new project situated in the village of Sai Tai, 15 minutes from Ao Nang. There are 270cc single seaters for 800 Baht per hour, double for 1000 Baht per hour (capable of 70 KPH) and specials for 1200 Baht per hour capable of 100 KPH. The track is built around a limestone cast. Instruction and insurance are included.
Nathin Spicy Garden was founded by a Dutch pharmacists who lives his retired life in Thailand. The plants on exhibition are from all over the world. Guided tours are available on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays at 10.00.

Learn about Life on a Muslim Island
Koh Klang is a Muslim fisherman island just opposite on the Krabi Town. Take a boat from the small pier and enjoy local hospitality. You can go fishing with the locals, at low tide go and dig for clams with the Muslim ladies or learn all about Batiks. Rice is also planted on the island. Please make sure you dress properly, no tank tops, longish trousers or shorts. Alcohol, dogs and pork are not allowed on the island, yet the alcohool can be consumed at Islanda Bar, the only resort on the island. Transport on the island either by bike or tuk tuk.
Koh Klang is a Muslim fishermen island on the other side of Krabi River and can only be reached by boat. The island can be reached in about 5 mins. and is worth a visit during the day, unless you want to stay in the resort on the island. The best time to cross is early mornings or before sunset. You can rent a bicycle or take a tuk tuk on Koh Klang. Rice is plated on the island, you can watch the fishermen make shallow bamboo stake traps, you can go clam digging and learn about batiks and longtail boat building. Please do not consume alcohol in public. The Islanda has a bar, you can have a sip of your favourite drink there. And plese do respect Muslim dress code. No tank tops and knee long shorts or skirts.
