There is no airport on Koh Phangan but you can choose to travel by plane to Surat Thani or Samui airport and then take the catamaran to Koh Phangan.
Taking a plane is good for those who prefer convenience and do not want to waste travelling time.
There are 2 airports in Surat Thani province to choose from: Surat Thani and Samui airports
-- If you fly to Surat Thani, you must take a transfer car to Don Sak pier. There are 3 airlines operating at Surat Thani airport: Thai Airways, Nok Air and Thai Air Asia. These flights take off from Don Muang airport and travel time is 1 hour. From Surat Thani airport to Don Sak pier takes 1.20 hours and another 2.30 hours by catamaran to Koh Phangan.
-- If you fly to Samui airport, Bangkok Airways operate a daily sevice from Bangkok to Koh Samui. Flights take off from Suvarnabhumi airport. Travel time is approximately 1 hour. Once you arrive on Koh Sumui you need to take a transfer car to Samui pier for the ferry to Koh Phangan.
Note: 1-2 month advanced booking is highly recommended during December – April.
- Check your flight information. Check-in at the airport at least 45 minutes before boarding time. The check-in counter is opened 2 hours prior to boarding time.
- You then must be security checked before going to your gate after check-in with your boarding pass.

- Security check
After checking in at the counter, you will need to pass the security checkpoint before proceeding to your gate. You have to show your boarding pass for checking and have all your belongings X-Rayed.
When passengers have passed through security and the carry-on bag check, he/she can then go directly to the gate.
Taking catamaran from Surat Thani
You can choose taking the catamaran from the city (Ban Don pier) which is a night catamaran. It departs daily at 23.00 hrs. and arrives at Thong Sala pier (Koh Phangan) at 06.00 hrs. If you choose to take the catamaran from Don Sak pier, you can go to downtown Surat Thani (Ban Don) and purchase a joint ticket (bus+catamaran) to Don Sak pier.
Taking catamaran from Koh Samui There are 3 piers on Koh Samui: Phra Yai pier, Mae Nam pier and Nathon pier, to get to Koh Phangan.
