Koh Phangan does not have an airport, but it is nevertheless well connected to Bangkok and all tourist areas in the South.
From Bangkok there are several night trains every day destined to Chumphon or Surat Thani from where local transport is well organized in the morning taking all travellers to their favored boat connection, see "By Train and Boat".
From Bangkok there are also direct aircon-busses to the piers of Chumphon for boats to Koh Tao and further to Koh Phangan, see "By Bus and Boat".
For tourists who do need to fly there is the Bangkok Airways Airport on Koh Samui from where a taxi transfer is available to the ferry pier of the catamaran Lomprayah at Mae Nam Beach, see "By Plane and Boat".

When coming from Bangkok the most convenient way, though not the cheapest, is to purchase a ticket for the Lomprayah Ferry that includes the Deluxe bus trip directly to the pier at Ao Makham. There you walk just 200 m on the jetty to the large and comfortable Lomprayah catamaran passenger ferry boat.
Details and alternatives are on the page "By Bus and Boat". | |
Coming from any resort area in the south, the gateway for Koh Phangan is Surat Thani. Most busses end at the BoKoSo bus station outside of Surat Thani, so you have to change into a local bus bound for the pier of Raja Ferry at Don Sak or walk back 200 m to the office of Lomprayah catamaran. If you happen to arrive safely with one of the outdated busses of Andaman Wave Master (formerly Songserm) from Krabi or Phuket, you will be taken directly to the pier at Tha Thong where the Songserm Express Boat departs for Koh Samui and further on to Koh Phangan. For more details see "By Bus and Boat". |
If you come with your own car and don't want to take it to Koh Phangan, you can park it safely at Ao Makham near Chumphon or at the guarded car park at Don Sak.
If you want to take your car to Koh Phangan, the only means of transport is the Raja Ferry from Don Sak.
For more details see "By Car and Boat".
