Ao Nam Mao is a fishing village approximately 4 kms from Ao Nang. Ao Nam Mao  is slowly developing tourist facilities. Ao Nam Mao is still a quiet place to stay even though it is  close to Ao Nang. There is no such thing as night life in Ao Nam Mao Which makes it an excellent destination for people who look for peace and quiet.
The beach at Ao Nam Mao is quite unattractive during low tide. During high tide swimming conditions are good.
At Ao Nam Mao Pier the boats take off to Rai Leh and Koh Poda or Chicken Island.
The road then finishes at the Shell Fossil Beach at the very end of Ao Nam Mao. Shell Fossil Beach also called Susan Hoi, which means Shell Cemetery. They were deposited 20-40 million years ago when the area was part of a swamp. From here you have a great view on the islands. Vendors sell shell souvenirs of all kinds.
On the way to Susan Hoi is the Krabi Aquarium, which is worth a visit and the entrance is free. You can see various underwater species in tanks, even a leopard shark. Unfortunately, all information about marine life is in Thai.
If you look for more activities in Ao Nam Mao, you can go horse riding with or without a guide depending on your riding skills.

Susan Hoi Gastropod Fossil (สุสานหอย ) (Krabi)

Susan Hoi (Gastropod Fossil) is a Seashell Graveyard. This tourist attraction has slates of compressed seashells 20 to 40 million year old which look a bit like concrete.

There is a small museum too and a long row of gift shops. This shell graveyard at Ban Leam Pho was once a large freshwater swamp, home to a kind of snail. With changes on the surface of the earth these snails lived and died by the million. The layer of fossilized snail shells was forty centimeters thick resting on ten centimeters of lignite below which is the subsoil.
Entry is 200 Baht for foreigners, 20 Baht for Thais. This "attraction" is not worth the 200 Baht, unless you are a geology student.

Susan Hoi (Gastropod Fossil) is located 17 km from Krabi Town and about 7 km west of Ao Nang.
