Transfer from Phuket Airport
is only possible by Taxi
NO public transport exists from Phuket International Airport to Khao Lak.
The only recommendable means of transport is by taxi.
There are 3 options for taxis at the airport:
1) Outside the arrival hall at Phuket Airport a limousine service offers a taxi ride to Khao Lak for 1800 to 2000 Baht for 2 persons depending on the destination hotel. For 3 passengers or more a minibus is required that costs officially 2700 Baht. A voucher has to be paid in advance, then the passengers have to wait until a taxi for Khao Lak becomes available, which can take quite some time at peak traffic hours in the morning and evening.
We do NOT recommend this "official" limousine service.
2) We also do NOT recommend to take an outlaw taxi driver inside or outside the airport terminal as they have no license and no taxi insurance. They have a white number plate for a private car.
Miss Beauty has her driving license for 8 years. She has been a taxi driver since 2017 between Phuket Airport and Khao Lak, first with a private car, now with a legal taxi. Miss Beauty has learned driving a taxi from her mother, Mrs. Pimmanee, who has been a taxi driver since 2008. She has also learned to become a very careful driver. She speaks only little English, but understands English quite well. The trip from Phuket Airport to Khao Lak costs 1700 Baht for 2 persons, 2000 Baht for 3 passengers. A night surcharge of 500 Baht applies from 20 hours to 6 in the morning (8 pm to 6 am). For 4 or more passengers she arranges the legal minibus taxi of Mr. Wat. The fare is 2500 Baht for 4 to 7 passengers. Miss Pimmanee (nickname Jiab) obtained the first legal taxi license in Khao Lak in 2009. It took 10 long, long months to get the green number plate with the number 1 (later by government order changed to 67). She had to pass a difficult taxi driver course and had to fulfill many unforeseen requirements like a real garage for her car. Her taxi has a first class insurance (300 Baht per trip). Miss Pimmanee is very friendly and speaks enough English to communicate with her passengers. The transfer from Phuket Airport to Khao Lak costs 1700 Baht per trip for 2 persons. If passengers get delayed she wants to be informed by a telephone call or by SMS. If you did not book your hotel with the help of Internet Booking Service Khao Lak, you may still use the taxi service of Khun Pimmanee by mailing to khaolaktransfer@gmail.com If the mail button at the bottom of this window does not work, please use the email address khaolaktransfer@gmail.com in your mail program directly. Only cars with a green number plate are registered taxis and only company minibuses with a yellow number plate are legal minibus taxis.
Registered taxi drivers are fully insured, including a first class insurance for the passengers. An accident will be handed over immediately to the insurance whose agent handles the case professionally according to international standards. An accident will remain an unpleasant event, but not develop into a nightmarish disaster.

Transfer by Taxi from Krabi Airport
Some Khao Lak tourists arrive at Krabi Airport. The direct taxi ride from Krabi Airport to Khao Lak will cost at least 2500 Baht, more probably even 3000 Baht.
The landscape on the way from Krabi to Khao Lak is quite spectacular. If you want to use this trip from Krabi also for sightseeing (one or two extra hours), be prepared to pay another 1000 Baht. A popular stop on the way is at Than Boke Khorani National Park near Ao Luk, another one the Dairy Hut Seafood Restaurant just before Phang Nga.
A small piece of real jungle on the way from Krabi Airport to Khao Lak:
Than Boke Khorani National Park (อุทยานแห่งชาติธารโบกธรณี) (Krabi)
Rates: 10 to 50 Baht

The Dairy Hut Seafood Restaurant is another highlight in the restaurant scene of Phang Nga. The remarkable building is situated in the south of town near the Shell petrol station beside the road to Thap Put. The building with the pointed roof is located in beautiful landscape beside a small lake with Nipa Palm trees below a limestone mountain. All furniture is aesthetic and strong. Thais seem to prefer to eat in the air-conditioned room whereas the terrace beside the lake attracts guests of all walks of life. The background music is of an unobtrusive volume. The immense menu is a piece of art with all dishes attractively photographed. Naturally the seafood dishes take up most pages in a variety that I have never seen before. Other dishes are a wide spectrum of the Thai cuisine as well as a large variety of international specialties. Our first test revealed that each dish ordered was first class, the presentation as well as the taste. The free drinking water was continually refilled, a nice trait of the Thai food culture in general. Naturally the price range is in the upper region but still far below the typical prices in an upper class tourist hotel. We will surely come back soon to enjoy another meal in the Dairy Hut Seafood Restaurant.

Transfer by Taxi from Surat Thani Train Station
The official fare for a taxi from the train station Phunpin to Khao Lak is 3000 Baht. Taxis are located 100 m to the north of the train station, that is to your left when you exit the station.
As 2500 Baht are NOT an attractive rate for the taxi driver, it might take some time before you find a taxi driver who is willing to drive the long distance of 200 km to Khao Lak for this low fare, and back empty. In the afternoon it will be especially difficult to find a driver, because he has to come back in the night on a road that can be quite treacherous if it rains.
For a stretch of about 50 km this transfer leads through a very impressive mountain landscape. Maybe ask your taxi driver to make a short stop at the viewpoint high above the Klong Sok valley. If you have time and need a rest, we can recommend a stop at the Gafae Coffee Shop by the side of the road or in the Wind Song Cafe just before the entrance of the Khao Sok National Park.
