The oldest bar in Bang Niang is the Piranha Bar of Mr. Pak at Bang Niang Beach Road. Mr. Pak is a great entertainer and gets his bar full almost every night. Guests can enjoy his mixed drinks at the bar counter or at tables made from rustic wood. The music is tuned to a medium level such that conversations are possible and new friends can be made.

The quite popular Smile Bar is situated opposite the entrance of Mukdara Beach Resort at the beginning of Emerald Plaza. A guitarist does his best to entertain the guests. As the sound is not too loud his efforts are not too obstructive for a good conversation. But not everybody can stand his interpretation of the famous pieces by John Denver.

The 12 Bar is situated in Emerald Plaza opposite of the entrance to Mukdara Resort at Bang Niang Beach Road. As it is further away from the road, no outside noise is disturbing the guests. Sometimes musicians produce live Thai music. A pool table and a large screen showing English sports events caters for English tourists.

P and Y Bar serves food, has a pool table and also rents out rooms at reasonable prices. Yves, a friendly Swiss-French owner and his Thai wife were one of the first here and have owned this small guest house, bar ,restaurant for a number of years before the Tsunami hit. They serve Thai as well as western food, such as Cordon Blue and Schnitzel. They also rent out motor scooters. They are situated about half way down the Bang Niang Beach road.

Song's Bar, named after the owners son, is situated on the right side of Bang Niang market. The Thai-Dutch family moved from the Bang Niang Beach Road back to the market where the music doesn't disturb the restaurants and massage shops. The friendly owners, David and Wuan, are both willing entertainers who enjoy having a drink,talking and a laughing with their guests. A variety of cocktails as well as beers are served by the friendly staff. David, together with family and friends are constantly making improvements and alterations to the Thai style Bar, which is built with palm leaf roofs, on wooden and bamboo structures. The floor through out the whole bar consists of beach sand. Most of the furniture is self made, and the whole structure was built without the use of a tape measure. Nothing is straight, which all adds to the special character of the bar. This is more an experience than just a bar. Ex-pats of all nationalities and types, as well as always returning tourists and couples, all become part of the "family", and also part of the Bang Niang gossip!

The new Moo Moo Cabaret is situated on the Bang Niang main road beside the bridge, nearly opposite of the Khao Lak Museum. The Moo Moo Cabaret is a lady boy show of world class. The Show is vibrant and dynamical, and the "ladies" wear the most colorful and incredible dresses and costumes. Some dancers work as Tour or dive guides, or as staff in Restaurants or Hotels nearby. These young people are truly dedicated and love to dress up and show dance. Moo Moo,the producer of the show, once a lady boy dancer himself, gives his lady boys, the chance to lead a life away from red light districts and prostitution.
This great illusion show is entrance free, but charges a little more for drinks than other bars. At the end of the show there is coyote dancing for those who would like to meet and dance along with the lady boys, and the obligatory
photo session, where guests may have photos taken in their company. There is no charge, but tips are always welcome. Once a month the young ones are proud to dress up, perform and dance on stage. Their enjoyment and engagement is visually apparent.
Moo Moo also supports and makes donations to the local children's Tsunami orphanage.
This is a show worth seeing, and much enjoyed by guests of all ages, sexes and nationalities.
The Show starts daily at 21.45, giving guests the time to dine before.

Zantika discotheque opened in December of 2010. It is the largest disco in the region, with a huge stage. Often good local and sometimes popular national bands play vibrant and exhilarating music. On occasion sexy Go-Go girls dance to the pounding rhythm. Visited by both Thais, Tourists and disco goers of all types and colors, who may dance or not, it is surely a place worth visiting, when one is in a disco mood. Locals usually turn up in groups around 2 AM, when the place can suddenly fill up, and party until closing time, which is at 4 AM.
No food is available, but hungry disco goers can visit a couple of cheap but good Thai Restaurants, like "Bingo", which is nearby and still open after 4 AM.

Die fünf- bis sechs-köpfige Band von Num in der Degree Bar spielt für meine laienhaften Ansprüche den besten Thai Rock in ganz Thailand. Erst ab 23 Uhr füllt sich der zur Strasse offene Laden so richtig. An manchen Abenden gehen die Thais mit, dass sich die Tische biegen. Vor allem Frauen jeden Alters tanzen zu den Stücken von Carabao und Job to do, dass der Boden bebt. Da lassen sich sogar die paar alternden Farangs anstecken und tanzen sich in Schweiss. Mit wenigen Baht fuer ein Sprite und einen Teller geröstete Cashews kann man ein paar tolle Stunden erleben. Pünktlich um 2 Uhr nachts wird aufgehört, was die Musiker auch brauchen, die sich da fast ohne Pause in Hochform spielen.
Immer mal wieder sind Gast-Musiker aus anderen Orten Thailands da und bringen einen anderen Sound mit, mal zum Guten, mal eher zum Abwinken. Auch Farangs, die eigentlich ganz bieder aussahen, haben schon mal die Instrumente und den Saal in Stimmung gebracht.
Sollte es mal an einem Abend nicht so funken -- macht nix, einfach wieder kommen.
Hier habe ich noch nie einen Fight erlebt und noch nie Betrunkene die Stimmung verderben gesehen. Auch Gatoeys sieht man hier nie. Allerdings auch nur ganz wenige Touristen, die in Khao Lak eben um diese Zeit schon in der Heia liegen.

Mars Bar and Cafe is run by a Thai-English couple, and is on the main Road, just before the Honda garage. Open the whole year round, it is a meeting point for tourists as for ex-pats living here. There is a large variety of cocktails and beers. Mars, a friendly host, with innovative ideas, has decorated the bar in a fashionable style. Once also a DJ, he passionately loves to play 60's and 70's Music. Thursday is "Ladies Night", when ladies as well as men dress up as ladies they are offered drinks at half price. These are fun nights, when people like to have a drink or three or more! New, Monday is men's night and Tuesday is music night ! The food is simple and good value for money. They offer a variety of fast foods, such as Steak and Kidney Pie and chips or mash with beans or mushy peas, curries , sandwiches and breakfasts, as well as " boiled eggs and soldiers" !

Tha Bar is situated at Phetkasem Road in Bang Niang near the bridge. Here bar girls entertain customers and take care of them. Some massage ladies are available, too. In the back of the bar there are a big screen showing sports events and a snooker table. Prices for drinks are not exaggerated.

Tarzan Bar was the first bar in Khao Lak in the early nineties. It was situated among the beach restaurants right on the beach. Like the restaurants Tarzan Bar had to move to the main road and eke out a living there. Still today it is fairly popular.

Monkey Bar has moved 400 meters further north. The popular bar is now situated opposite of Kasikorn Bank in a small lane of its own.

The Sakai Bar is situated by the main Road in the new shop houses below Phu Khao Lak. This is a friendly bar where good 70-90s music is often played. The pool table is free of charge. Beverage prices are average.
