Eastern Thailand are the provinces to the east of the capital Bangkok. Along the Gulf of Thailand these are the provinces Chonburi, Rayong, Chantaburi and Trat. In the inland are the provinces Chachoengsao, Prachinburi and Sa Kaeo. The most famous tourist destination in this area is Pattaya (Chonburi province) followed by Koh Samet in Rayong and Koh Chang in Trat with its surrounding islands, especially Koh Mak and Koh Kut. The most well known places in the inland are Wang Nam Khiao (in various spellings) and the lively border town Aranyaprathet.
