The route from Surat Thani through the Khao Sok Valley to Khao Lak and Phang Nga is about 300 km long. Back through the mountainous landscape of Ao Luk and on the Superhighway are another 200 km. Road 401 from Surat to Khao Sok, 126 km. Detour 1 to Khiri Ratnikhom, 11 km: -- Wat Tham Singkhon -- Klong Nam Sai Detour 2 to Rajjaprabha Dam and the spectacular Chiew Lan Lake, 60 km. Further on from Khao Sok National Park to Takua Pa (55 km): -- A restaurant with a nice view -- Hotsprings to relax your muscles -- An impressive Folk Museum in a Wat Detour 3 to the historic Chinese town Talad Kao (Old Takua Pa), 14 km, where the famous Vegetarian Festival was created and is celebrated very traditional. Detour 4 to Ban Nam Khem, 11 km: -- The Tsunami Memorial -- The fishing boat Blue Angel Detour 5 along Bang Sak Beach, 4 km.

On Phetkasem Highway along the beaches of the touristic Khao Lak Region, 33 km: -- the laid back Pakweep Beach -- the more developed Nang Thong Beach -- Police Boat 813, swept into the land by the Tsunami waves and stranded near the road -- Khao Lak Museum and Tsunami Exhibition, soon to be opened to show the efforts of the local people to regenerate their livelihoods -- the famous shrine Poh Ta Khao Lak on the hill overlooking the Khao Lak Beaches -- Khao Lak Viewpoint

From Khao Lak to Phang Nga on Phetkasem Highway with two nice detours, 83 km, and the world class boat trip in the Bay of Phang Nga to the famous Khao Tapu: Detour 6 to Thai Mueang Beach to watch the young turtles in February/March, 8 km -- an adventurous, strenuous half day trip up the mountain to see the Rafflesia -- two attractive temples by the road side -- the boat tour from Nai Ngop Pier through the mangrove forest to Khao Tapu, Panyi Island and the hongs of Phang Nga Bay -- by boat into the unique Tham Pung Chang -- to the fantastic viewpoint on top of the chedi at the impressive Wat Thamtapan Detour 7 to Bang Pat, the fishing village on stilts at the rim of Phang Nga Bay, 21 km

Attractions along the Route in the North of Krabi Province
From Phang Nga to Ao Luk are 42 km. Than Boke Korani National Park is situated in Ao Luk among towering rock formations, harboring a beautiful piece of jungle. A river flows from a cave and cascades through the trees and impressive jungle flora. Tham Klang is one of the most beautiful caves of Thailand, displaying a wide variety of stalaktites and stalagmites seen rarely together in one cave. To preserve the fragile ecology only 60 visitors are permitted every day.

Back to Surat Thani The new 4-lane highway H44 from Krabi to Surat Thani is 140 km long. A good driver in a good car can cover this distance in a little more than an hour.
