Chiang Mai Province

The Northern Province of Chiang Mai is the largest in the region. Its capital Chiang Mai is Thailand´s second largest city.
During the winter months the temperature is around 26°C during the day and the nights can become chilly in mountain regions where temperatures drop  to 8°C during the night.
From April to July it can become very hot, temperatures up to 34° C are normal. The rainy season starts in July so humidity rises. In October temperatures start to cool down and the winter season begins.
Many people are attracted by the diversity of Chiang Mai Province.
On one hand you have the fast growing city of Chiang Mai and on the other you can still find small traditional farms and mountain villages within 40 kms of the city.
Being a sovereign kingdom until the 19th century the culture of Lanna  differs from the rest of Thailand. This can be seen in the architecture of old houses and temples.
The  mountainous landscapes, Doi Inthanon, the highest mountain in Thailand, part of one of  the many National Parks, Hot Springs, lakes and the rather cool climate, the  province has a lot to offer for nature lovers and those who want to explore the country on two or four wheels.

North Thailand in general is ideal for motorbike tours, Chiang Mai renters offers a good choice of big bikes.

Endless rows of rice fields border the roads of the province. Due to the climate, sunflowers, strawberries, cashew nuts, tobacco and cotton are grown as well as all kinds of vegetables.  On your way out from the city you will pass many traditional farm villages where English is hardly spoken and foreigners are not often seen.
Chiang Mai is the destination for those who want an active holiday. You have the most magnificent golf courses in Thailand, trekking facilities are good and fishing parks are there for anglers. Elephant Camps, Zip-line parks as well as cycling can be part of your stay. Enjoy the Northern art and culture, the umbrella making, weaving and wood carvings. And of course the many temples that are really worth a visit.
