Dear Khao Lak Friends, the baby elephant Boon Namm is now 14 months old. He is obviously a strong boy now and can play around with visitors by himself.
The T-Tour team still offers a visit with one of its 3 guides including transport. Also a few responsible tour guides in Khao Lak have been selected to take visitors to the camp, esp. the very friendly guide Mr. Gaeng.

All the best and have fun in Khao Lak!
The Baby Elephant Camp Bo Saen was created by Khun Nok from T-Tour in May and June 2015. She found a very beautiful area among the limestone rocks of Phang Nga Province adjoining the Tao Thong Waterfall. The Camp has an area of 15 rai (6 acres) bordered to the north and west by majestic limestone formations.
Nok had built a corral from large tree trunks with a special baby elephant pool so that visitors can easily go bathing with Boon Namm, the baby elephant, under supervision of his mother Jintala.  [Sep. 20: Boon Namm broke the tree trunks down, so they had to be replaced by cement.]
Tourists can also go elephant riding on the neck of Jintala from the corral to the waterfall. The track is just 200 meters, but it is nevertheless a wonderful experience to ride high above the ground on this gentle elephant lady.
On a new track you may also ride directly on the neck of Jintala or her sister for up to 30 minutes at your own risk, sitting with the mahout or without him. From December 1, 2015 this unique ride costs 800 Baht p.p.

Baby Elephant Camp Bo Saen (BoSaen)
Rates: 300 Baht

The Baby Elephant Camp Bo Saen was created by Khun Nok from T-Tour in June 2015. She found a very beautiful area among the limestone rocks of Phang Nga Province adjoining the Tao Thong Waterfall. The Camp has an area of 15 rai bordered to the north by majestic Karst formations. Nok had built a corral with a special baby elephant pool so that visitors can easily go bathing with Boon Namm, the baby elephant, under supervision of his mother Jintala. Tourists can also go elephant riding on the neck of Jintala from the corral to the waterfall. The track is just 200 meters, but it is nevertheless a wonderful experience to ride high above the ground on this gentle elephant lady. Adjoining the camp is a muslim restaurant that serves exceptionally delicious local food. There is also a bungalow available for 1500 Baht per night for elephant lovers who want to stay near these giant creatures for a few days. The locals of Ban Bo Saen are very friendly muslims who love the baby elephant and the elephant mother.
To visit the camp you can contact T Tour in Bang Niang, Khao Lak, on the way to the Police Boat 813. They will provide transport to the Baby Elephant Camp by minibus for 1200 Baht per person. The staff will arrange at least 4 persons travel together. The Camp charges just 50 Baht for a bundle of bananas for feeding the elephant if you come with T Tour. When you come on your own or with another tour company, entrance fee is 800 Baht per person. Riding on Jintala is charged separately.
A few other attractions like cooking a local style dessert, Thai massage next to the waterfall, or a visit to the local village by 3-wheel motorcycle are also available.
Beware: Some tour companies in Khao Lak sell now "Baby Elephant Tours" that take you to young elephants of 4 to 6 years. They are NOT baby elephants.

T Tour (ที ทัวร์) (BangNiang)

T-Tour is a tour operator in Bang Niang, Khao Lak, specializing in nature adventure tours that no other tour operator offers. Khun Nok has researched the most fabulous places in Phang Nga Province and combined various attractions into highly rewarding tours. Her top tours are the T-Globe Triathlon and Mini-Triathlon around Phang Nga Town and Thap Put with the three sports biking, kayaking and swimming. The detailed description of these tours is available on the webpage
www.t-globe.com/14915
One of them is a 3-in-1 world class kayaking trip with 3 completely different kayak trips in one day: on a jungle river, on a tidal mangrove river and in a limestone cave in close contact to awe inspiring stalactites.
She also arranges a 4 hour jungle trekking in Khao Lak-Lamru National Park on hiking trails that even the locals do not know. This trek leads mostly in the shade through extremely beautiful vegetation with many flowers hardly ever seen. Soon she will be able to arrange a mountain bike trip through this beautiful national park.

7Eleven Bang Niang (เซเว่น อิเลเว่น) (BangNiang)

Police Boat 813 - Attractions
Police Boat 813 (เรือตรวจการณ์ 813) (KhaoLak)

The Police Patrol Boat 813 was washed 1.3 km inland by the Tsunami of December 26, 2004. Eyewitnesses saw the boat under full power navigating against the huge wave, but nevertheless riding backwards across Bang Niang River and being stranded 200 meters from Phetkasem Highway. As it is impossible to move the big boat from there to the sea, it is left there as the most remarkable Tsunami Memorial. In 2012 a new road was built to the boat passing the Tsunami Memorial Sculpture "Stabile".
On December 26, 2004, the police boat 813 was safeguarding the daughter of the King of Thailand and her son, who as guests of the La Flora Resort were enjoying Bang Niang Beach. On various videos the boat is seen in calm waters, then being abruptly lifted up by the approaching wave. Still at that moment nobody could expect the extreme speed and power of the wave. Most probably the water was so full of air that the propellers of the boat could not exercise their full thrust.

Tsunami Museum Khao Lak (KhaoLak)

The "Khao Lak Museum" was created by the long time residents Franky Gun and Richard Doring, commemorating Khao Lak's 25th birthday. In July 2015 it was renamed to "Tsunami Museum Khao Lak" and moved to the road leading to the Police Boat 813, where many more visitors are aware of its existence. The museum shows the history of tourism in the Khao Lak region. Many hotels, restaurants, tour agencies, dive centers and other businesses of Khao Lak display their history since the year 1987, when the first tourist business, the Khao Lak Bungalows, was opened in Khao Lak. Other historical artifacts, maps, pictures and documents are also presented in the 40 square meter exhibition room.
The "Tsunami Exhibition" honors the efforts of the Khao Lak people and their friends to reconstruct Khao Lak in the year following the disastrous Tsunami of December 2004. Original documents show the help of the true friends of Khao Lak, help by means of donations for specific Tsunami victims and by goods that alleviated the severe pain of effected Khao Lak residents. Videos about the Tsunami in Khao Lak are displayed.
Entrance is free, a donation can be given at the discretion of visitors.
The museum guide, Khun Id, can give explanations in Thai and English. A glass of water is offered free of charge. At a counter in front of the museum competent staff from T-Tour gives information about the attractions in the Khao Lak area. They can also arrange a taxi for visiting Tsunami related memorials.

Bang Niang Market - Attractions
Bang Niang Market (ตลาดบางเนียง) (KhaoLak)

The afternoon market of Bang Niang takes place every Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday from 14.00 hours until nightfall around 18.30 hours. On Saturday hundreds of customers flock to the market creating quite a traffic jam on the access roads.
Villagers, business people from near and afar, and quite a few tourists come to buy all sorts of provisions, mainly vegetables, fruits, seafood, housewares, and clothes. Several stalls sell food like Khanom Chin, grilled Chicken pieces with Kao Niau, grilled fish of various types, packed salad ready to eat, Thai sweets, among them my favourites Mango with Sticky Rice and Pumpkin filled with Pudding. Also some souvenir shops have joined the crowd and sell their products at fair prices.

The market is located behind the landmark 7eleven in the center of Ban Bang Niang right behind the taxi stand. It is made up of makeshift roofs of palm leaves and some plastic foil. When it is raining the market literally drowns in the waters running everywhere.

With your own transport you may visit the camp on your own. There is a signboard at highway H415 to Tao Thong Waterfall. You drive through Bo Saen Village for 2.5 km to the parking area of the waterfall. Then you cross the swinging bridge, and there you are!
Entrance is 500 Baht per person PLUS the cost for a bunch of bananas (50 Baht) if you want to feed the elephants. Food from outside is not allowed for hygienic reasons.
