Khao Sam Roi Yot Nationalpark

South of Pranburi the so-called “mountains of 300 summits” rising at the coast between Hua Hin and Prachuap Khiri Khan – a 130 sq km Marine National Park. Bizarre karst formations towering up to 605 meters from vast green plains. Cheeky monkey hordes dwell in the forests, which do not mind  eating your packed lunch. The national park features a coast with several beautiful white beaches. It is said that about 30–40 dolphins are found in its coastal waters, among them about 5 or 6 almost white Indo Pacific Humpback Dolphins. If you are lucky you can see them from December when the sea is quiet.
Without consideration that the park is decreed by the World Conservation Union (IUCN) as a place of global significance, the economical orientated regional administration was successful with its plans against nature protection and tourism. Old grazing rights were dug out, which gave  permission to convert Thung Sam Roi Yot, Thailand's largest freshwater swamplands, into 165 shrimp farms. Nowadays many birds stay away.  Regarding this issue the information of the national park administration at www.dnp.go.th/parkreserve/asp/style1/default.asp?npid=8&lg=2 sounds like a fairy tale – colliding with the sad reality.
Cave freaks who do not mind paying 400 Baht entrance fee can visit three caves: small and partially very narrow stalactite/stalagmite Kaeo Cave, large rock cave Phraya Nakhon Cave and Sai Cave with up to 15 m tall stalagmites and stalactites. Laem Sala Beach, a wide beach with casuarina trees providing shade and Sam Phraya Beach are not particularly interesting regarding the entrance fee you are required to pay.
