Susan Hoi (Gastropod Fossil) is a Seashell Graveyard. This tourist attraction has slates of compressed seashells 20 to 40 million year old which look a bit like concrete.

There is a small museum too and a long row of gift shops. This shell graveyard at Ban Leam Pho was once a large freshwater swamp, home to a kind of snail. With changes on the surface of the earth these snails lived and died by the million. The layer of fossilized snail shells was forty centimeters thick resting on ten centimeters of lignite below which is the subsoil.
Entry is 200 Baht for foreigners, 20 Baht for Thais. This "attraction" is not worth the 200 Baht, unless you are a geology student.

Susan Hoi (Gastropod Fossil) is located 17 km from Krabi Town and about 7 km west of Ao Nang.

Emerald Pool,known as Sa Morakot,is a natural pond that originates from a warm stream in the lowland forest of Khao Nor Juji.

The pool is an amazing green and aquamarine color. The intense turquoise color varies according to the light and time of the day. The pool can be visited all year round. Entrance fee is 200 Baht for foreigners and 20 Baht for Thais.

It's about an hours drive from Krabi.

Khao Phanom Bencha National Park covers a total area of 31,325 rai. The summit rises 1.397 m above sea level and is the highest mountain in Krabi.

Its stunning scenery is enhanced by streams, waterfalls, caves, and wild animals. In addition several beautiful waterfalls and caves containing vast quantities of stalagmites and stalactites are located within the park. Huai To Waterfall, approximately 500 meters from the headquarters, flows over rocks into 11 huge pools.

Khao Phanom Bencha National Park is located approximately 20 km north of Krabi Town, follow H1016 until you reach the headquarters.

Ron Klong Thom Waterfall, better known as Krabi Hot Springs, is located close to the Emerald Pool. The waterfall is in a shady forest area with numerous hot springs.
The hot and cool streams converge on a slope of warm water with a temperature of 40C. Entrance fee is 50 Baht.

Ron Klong Thom Waterfall is located about 45 km. from Krabi Town.

Than Boke Khorani National Park covers an area of 37.5 rai. The Park is covered by a diverse canopy of various species of tree, such as wild gardenia, Asoka, and Apocynaceae that are scattered around Sa Boke Khorani.

At the north end of Sa Boke Korani, which flows through a winding passage in the mountain, is a wood carving of Lord Buddha's footprint and a shrine of Chao Pho To Yuan - To Chong. Other attractions in the park include several limestone mountain caves, verdant mangrove forests and beautiful islands which can be reached only by boat. Admission fee for adults and children are 200 and 100 baht per person. The Park does not provide accommodation, but camping in the park is allowed although tourists have to bring their own tents. Tha Pom Klong Song Nam (Two waters meet)is well known for its crystal clear water stream. Sea water meets fresh water during the high tide resulting in a mixture of waters in the stream.

Tha Pom Klong Song Nam is a beautiful area five kilometers in length. It is unique for its outstandingly clear emerald-green waters and its location on the tide line. The stream water is alternatively fresh or brackish depending upon the state of the tides. This has resulted in the development of three different forest systems in a very concentrated area.
A boardwalk leads you though the park. The admission fee for adults is 100 baht.Children 30 baht. In order to keep this fragile ecological system intact swimming is prohibited. However, there is a pool nearby where you can take a dip.

Tha Pom Tha Pom Klong Song Nam is about 40 km. from Krabi town.

Tham Pee Hua To is just 500 meters from Tham Lot and surrounded by mangrove swamps.
There are two different paths inside the cave. On the left lies the shortcut to the back of the cave where sunlight shines through, and on the right is a path to a natural hall believed to have been a shelter for prehistoric people. Prehistoric paintings of men and animals. Numerous seashells can be seen in the cave.

Tham Lot is situated in Ao Luk District in Krabi Province. It is accessed from the tidal mangrove river Tha Pring. This cave with its lovely stalactites is worth a visit. It is no way as interesting as other caves in the area.
The best time to go is at high tide.

Tham Muerd is the Thai name for "Dark Cave". This extensive cave is situated in Ao Luk District in Krabi Province, actually in Than Bok Khorani National Park. The wide entrance is right in the sheer cliff of a huge wall. After a few meters the cave becomes really dark and headlamps are necessary to find your way. There are no obstacles in the way, though, so it is easy to paddle the 100 meters to the exit. There you are in the midst of a mangrove forest surrounded by steep limestone walls. Many stalactites are hanging from these walls presenting an impressive sight.

The Lagoon Cave is situated in Ao Luk District in Krabi Province. It is actually a part of Than Bok Khorani National Park. But there is nobody here to collect an entrance fee. The Lagoon Cave is entered from the tidal mangrove river Tha Pring. The entrance in the sheer cliff is about 10 meters wide and 5 meters high. The cave is well lit by natural light. After 30 meters easy paddling you reach the lagoon behind the cave. The lagoon is surrounded by steep cliffs covered in dense vegetation. Some palm trees create a surrealistic impression. The main attraction is a stalactite formation that looks like a life size elephant from behind giving birth to a baby elephant.
The Lagoon Cave is not on the itinerary of the mass tourist excursions, thus it is still only rarely visited, although it is much more impressive than Tham Lot or Tham Pee Hua To.

Tham Klang is one of the most beautiful caves in Thailand. It is very easily accessible and poses no danger whatsoever.

Tham Klang features the most beautiful stalagmites and stalactites of different kinds that can be visited in less than one hour. Most remarkable are the grisly hair stalactites of one to two millimeters in diameter. Absolutely unique are the stalactite hairs dangling from the ceiling invisible to the unsuspecting eye. Other highlights in the cave are the "Viewpoint" and the "Dome", the small fishpond at the "end" after 45 minutes in the cave, and the myriads of drinking straw stalactites growing from the ceiling 2 to 3 meters in height.
For cave freaks we mention that the cave is said to be 4 hours deep, but such a trip has to be arranged long in advance, best with the guide Gaeng and the cave freak Richard from Khao Lak who are waiting for an expedition to be put together.

Turn off at KM stone 144.4 of highway H4, just 4 1/2 km south of Ao Luk junction. Drive 1 1/2 km down the asphalt road until the turnoff to the left which leads to the entrance within a few hundred meters on a gravel road. Next to the parking area is the resident guide's house. There are two caves accessible from the parking area. The right one an underground river which is said to be navigable by canoe for 2 hours. The left one is Tham Klang whose entrance is nearly hidden behind some greenery.

Tham Sua Noi is the site of a monastery and meditation center. The front is formed by a broad outcropping in the hill.

The area outside is peaceful and quiet. Inside the cave is beautiful and many old pottery remains have been found here.

Koh Kai is an amazing natural lime stone island resembling the body of a chicken crouching in the water.

One end of the island consists of steep cliffs while the other end has beautiful beaches along a peninsula. At low tide you can walk across the sandbank to the very tiny island of Thalay Waek. The warm and clear water is ideal for swimming. There is no accommodation on the island. A little food stall and toilets are the only amenities on the island.

Koh Poda has a lovely white sandy beach with crystal clear water. The waters around Koh Poda are suitable for swimming, snorkeling and sunbathing.

It is worth a day trip from the mainland. Longboats anchoring along the beach offer snacks and Thai dishes. The island is privately owned and a bungalow site belonging to Krabi Resort offers bungalows for those who want to explore the Robinson Crusoe feeling on the island.

Koh Poda is situated south of Ao Nang, 8 km offshore.

Koh Hong lies opposite Klong Muang. The island is uninhabited and part of the National Park.

Hong means room, and indeed, the island has a room, a spectacular lagoon - high cliffs enclosing an emerald pool, which is ideal for snorkeling. At the main beach of the island a ranger will ask you to pay 200 Baht entrance fee (children 100 Baht). If you do not want to pay this amount, ask the captain to go to one of the other 2 beaches on the outside of the island where swimming and sunbathing is free.

Koh Tup has lovely white sandy beaches surrounded by the crystal clear water of the Andaman Sea.

At low tide you can see that the island is connected via a sandbank with its sister island Koh Mor. Toilets and a small hut, which serves refreshments are the only amenities.

Ao Nang Friendly Bungalows is a small Muslim bungalow area with only 12 rooms. The rooms are clean and the concrete bungalows come with Aircon, TV and fridge. The cheaper wooden ones have fan and hot shower. It is a 15 minute walk to the beach from this quiet area. The owner also rents motorbike at 200 baht per day.

Somkiet Buri Resort is located in the center of Ao Nang. However it is very quiet and peaceful as it is set back quite a bit from the main road. Following the bamboo lined alleyway to reception you enter a lush tropical garden. A small river runs through the nice restaurant at Somkiet Buri Resort. Ten rooms are located in one and two storey buildings around the pool. It is a 10 mins walk from the Somkiet Buri Resort to Ao Nang Beach. The Somkiet Buri is a neat Resort and good value for money. The Happiness Resort is located about 2 km off Nopparat Thara Beach. The rooms at Happiness Resort are quite large and it is easy to fit an extra bed in. The staff at Happiness Resort are very friendly and helpful. It is an asset to be mobile if you are staying at the Happiness Resort.

Sala Thalay Resort, located at the Beach Road of Nopparat Thara Beach is a new 4 Star Hotel. The restaurant on the first floor offers a lovely view on the Andaman Sea and its islands. The traffic of the main road may be a bit disturbing in the restaurants. The rooms at the back should be quiet.

P.A.N Beach Bungalows is situated at the quiet and pristine Noppharat Beach, on the other side of the River Klong Son, also called Long Beach. The wooden bungalows at P.A.N Beach Bungalows are functional and do have neither TV nor fridge, as there is no electricity at this part of the beach. The generators however, run from 6 pm until 7 am. P.A.N Beach Bungalows are a perfect place to chill out and calm down. Motorbikes can be rented and tours booked through the friendly staff. Long Beach Krabi Villas is situated at the quiet and pristine Noppharat Beach, on the other side of the River Klong Son, also called Long Beach. The English owned and managed Krabi Sands Resort is located by the river in Klong Muang. The Restaurant of the Krabi Sands Resort is directly on the beach, whereas the spacious bungalows of the Krabi Sands Resort are on the opposite side of the road built around the swimming pool in a nice garden.

At Ao Tha Len Beach Le Passe Temps is a nice bungalow resort under French-Thai Management. The 8 detached houses at Le Passe Temps are all individually furnished and built in Timor Style. The atmosphere is very tranquil. The secluded white sandy beach is perfect for swimming during high tide. As Le Passe Temps is quite remote it is advisable to hire a car or motorbike in order to see the beauty of Krabi province. The little village has a mini market.

Akanak Resort overlooks Tha Len Bay. It is a good starting point for kayaking around the wonderful limestone scenery of Tha Len Bay, The Akanak Resort respects the individual desires of customers and is rather suited for an active holiday. The small saltwater pool at Akanak Resort is nice and refreshing as there is no beach for swimming. The restaurant is built on stilts and overlooks the bay. With respect to the Muslim Village the restaurant asks the customers not to consume alcoholic beverages. Alcohol can be ordered and/or consumed at the hotel. The Akanak Resort is secluded, thus a car or motorbike is an asset.

Ao Nang Cuisine is a Thai Chinese Restaurant located on the Beach Road. This Thai restaurant also offers seafood and during high season a BBQ. Friendly and attentive staff. Ao Nang Cuisine, former Mama's Kitchen was the first restaurant on Ao Nang Beach Road. Managed by a Thai Chinese couple always referred to as Mama and Papa. They have retired now and their rather shy son is continuing the business with the same perfection that can not be taken for granted in Thailand.

Red Devil, owned by Italian Umberto who also owns the Blue Guesthouse in Ao Nang, is located on the outskirts of Ao Nang on the road towards Ao Nam Mao. Full Moon Bar is quite popular amongst expats and locals. Located opposite Best Western Ban Ao Nang, Tom the owner of Full Moon Bar and Full Moon House mixes the best cocktails in Ao Nang. The service is very friendly and sports can be watched on the TV or just play a game of pool.

Sue's Cocktail Bar is a nice spot in Soi 8. Sue is a friendly Thai with good English and a great sense of humour. Quite popular during high season.

Moo 2 House Bar is now located next to Krabi Resort. Yao and his wife Maem are considerate with their customers. Internt is free and the pool table is in good condition. Moo 2 House is popular amongst the diving community. If you are hungry, Maem does various Pizzas and Thai delights. Yao also organises private parties.

Mitten im Dorf Bang Niang hat der Gründer und Inspirator von T-Globe (Thailand) Co.,Ltd., Richard Doring, sein Büro. In 4 grossen Bücherregalen wurde sein Wissen aus 25 Jahren Autorentätigkeit für den Loose-Verlag und die neuen Informationen von vielen Recherchereisen in den letzten Jahren gesammelt. Dies ist die Basis für das Webportal www.t-globe.com, das inzwischen über 10000 Webseiten umfasst, davon über 4000 auf Deutsch. Das Personal arbeitete hier mehrere Jahre lang, ist aber in grössere Räumlichkeiten an der Hauptstrasse umgezogen.
