The Rapid 171 arrives at 21.01 hours. For travellers who want to go directly to Koh Tao by nightboat this is the choice.
All other fast trains arrive in the middle of the night. Tour agencies and guest houses are open in order to welcome any newcomer. We really recommend to stay in Chumphon for a few days as the surroundings of Chumphon have a lot to offer.
By Bus:
From Bangkok Southern Bus Station (Sai Tai) various VIP and Aircon Buses drive to Chumphon in the evening, arriving in Chumphon 7 hours later, that is in the middle of the night. Motorcycle taxis might be around at the bus station in the center of town to take you to your hotel, but you can't be sure. We had to walk several times with our luggage. A bus from Lomprayah or Songserm departing near Khao San Road might be the more convenient means of transport.
